Melanie Walker's Devotional - September 21, 2009

Who Is Lord

Last year I was working on recording and releasing a Christmas song that I had in my heart to do for a few years and I felt it was God's season to move. I started working on it and things were going great. I loved where the song was going and the more I sang it the more powerful the message became. Because of busy schedules I was not able to start recording until one month before it had to go to the compilation companies. Our schedule was tight and we ran into a problem with the mix at the last minute. It was Monday and what I was hearing in the finished mix was not what I had imagined. WOW! We had planned to mail this to the compilation companies to release on Tuesday. Both mine and my producer's schedules were full. I panicked and thought Lord did I miss you? I had felt so certain God was in my plans but I knew I could not release the song the way it was. The message would be overlooked because of the inferior sound so I made the decision that if things could not get resolved by the end of the week I was going to put the recording on hold until the next year. I called the producer and the writer and told them we may not be able to do the song this year. I can't let it go out like this. I considered that I might have missed God's timing. I wanted the song to do well and knew it couldn't if we worked feverishly in our own strength to make something happen if He wasn't in it. I have to tell you 2 years ago I would have pressed ahead anyway. My producer said let me try one thing. Listen to it tomorrow and see if it is better. I did and it was! God made a way.

In considering this situation I said God why the problem right at the finish line. In the music business or music ministry because artist are passionate about their work; and they need to be to do it well, it is easy to get our eyes on a particular project , song or performance and off the one these things are meant to glorify. You see, God always wants what we do to be about him. The Word tells us to do everything we do as unto the Lord. That reaches a lot farther than a singing career or ministry. It encompasses our jobs, how we relate to our families, spend our money and take care of our bodies. When anything else becomes more important than Him it becomes our God. Over the years I have seen ministers desire great ministries so bad their focus became about the ministry itself and not the one the ministry was about. I have seen business men build their own kingdoms and others build careers that they found their meaning for life in. Jesus said He came that we would have life and life more abundantly. He says He would have us prosper and be in health as our soul prospers. He wants to bless us with all He has and by the way, that is much more than we can ever create ourselves. The Word goes so far as to tell us that He Can Do more than what we can think or even imagine. THAT'S BIG. But He wants our heart to be His not the things we have or pursue. He wants a relationship with us. The Word tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to us.

I was reminded of Abraham who had waited life time for a son. When he received him, it was miracle because of his old age. A true gift from God, and then one day God told him to sacrifice that son. Honestly I am not sure I could of or would have done that but Abraham did. You see Abraham had walked with God a long time and he trusted Him. He had a relationship with God. Well, Abraham took his son and laid him on the alter and just as he was getting ready to sacrifice him he turned and God provided another sacrifice. He did not have to give up that which God had given him and He loved so much but He did need to be willing to. You see God knew where Abraham's heart was because of his obedience. God honored Abraham and today we read about, sing about and pray for the blessings of Abraham in our own lives.

Where is your heart today?
