Standard songs, Traditional Hymns, Country Gospel, current material and lots from the past are all included on Melanie Walker's newest project. There is something to suit everyone's taste in Gospel Music. "Little Church on the Bayou" co-written by Charles Powell and Ken Holloway has a Cajun flavor, while "Surely Goodness ane Mercy" written by John W. Peterson and Alfred B. Smith is done with a taste of country. "Don't You Hear Jerusalem Moan"-Traditional gospel features banjo and fiddle music. "I Wonder", the title cut off Ms. Walker's project, was written by Stephen Hill and presented with class, lots of class by Melanie Walker. The project is highly recommended to all those who love Gospel Music with its many flavors.
Produced by one of my favorite people, Mandy Barnett, this 12 cut album is about as Country as Country can get, yet adding the Christian format to it. Melanie's voice is clear and distinct with "Come and Dine." Let me clarify here by saying that this is the country music you're used to hearing at the Grand Ole' Opry. She doesn't disappoint us with "Little Church On the Bayou." Written by John Peterson and Alfred Smith, "Surely Goodness and Mercy" is a wonderful ballad, with a smooth fit to the other songs on the album. The songs "Until We Know," and "Don't You Hear Jerusalem Moan" are great songs, but pale in comparrison to "I Wonder" which as far as I'm concerned reminds me way too much of Patsy Cline. The rest of the album continues to keep pace with "Unclouded Day." Of all the times I've heard "Pass Me Not", I don't think I've ever heard it this way before. What a totally awesome rendition of this great song. Of all of the songs on the album I have to admit that "The Father's Son" is the weakest one of th em all. On the other hand, "Crying Holy to the Lord", gets your attention and showcases Melanie's voice to its finest. Where its placed though doesn't give much credit to "More Than Enough" as it is much slower. The acapella rendition of "My Provider" although extremely short, is done with taste and style.
